Weather Update: More Snowfall Predicted, Avalanche Alert for 10 Districts of J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority on Friday issued avalanche warning in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of heavy snowfall since morning.

According to a communication, a copy of which lies with the news agency KNO, avalanche with high danger level is likely to occur above 2000 metres of Bandipora and Kupwara districts in the next 24 hours.

‚ÄúAvalanche with medium danger level is likely to occur above 2000 metres over Baramulla and Ganderbal districts and avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2000 metres over Anantnag, Doda, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Poonch and Ramban districts in the next 24 hours,‚ÄĚ the communication reads.

It also advised people living in these areas to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas.

Massive snowfall in Sonamarg

Sonamarg has received nearly 3 feet of snow in the last 24 hrs.

Total Snow accumulation in last 3 days = 5 feet.

Another development of clouds is taking place over south Kashmir areas. This development is likely to persist over some areas up to 6 hrs.

The movement of this development will be northwest so central and north Kashmir plains can also see some snow showers.

In south Kashmir plains, expect a couple of more inches snow.
