Bad News For Daily Wagers, Casual Labourers Working In Various Departments.
The casual labourers and daily wagers working in various departments across Kashmir rejected the minimum wages recently set by the J&K administration, terming it akin to rubbing salt on their wounds.
Scores of such workers under the banner of several employee unions appeared in the Press Enclave and were seen raising slogans in favor of their demands that included the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act and regularization of their services.
“All the regular employees are here for supporting the daily wagers and casual workers working in the departments across Kashmir and there is just one agenda and that is the implementation of Minimum Wages Act and the regularization of services of daily wagers and casual workers,” Sajjad Parray who heads the association of daily wagers and casual laborers said.
He said that the Government recently issued a notification regarding the Minimum Wages Act, “but it is sheer injustice because, in Delhi, workers get Rs 635 and Rs 311 have been set for us.”
Parray said that the 7th Pay Commission in 2018 recommended Rs 18000 as minimum wage and the same was accepted by the Supreme Court, India Labour Conference “and now in 2022, they are giving minimum wages of Rs 9000 per month which is nothing but injustice.”
He said that if their demands are not met the leadership of the workers will come out with a program for agitation after due consultations. (Daily Excelsior).
